NEW YORK (March 20, 2002) - New York State Sen. William J. Larkin, Jr., who played a key role in the passage of legislation mandating the expansion of gaming in New York, will present the opening night keynote address at next month's New York Gaming Summit. He is chairman of the Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering. Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte (D-Niagara Falls) will introduce Larkin. She is one of the most articulate advocates for the development of casinos in Western New York State.
The Summit, which is drawing top executives, analysts and regulators representing every segment of the gaming industry, will convene April 8-9 at the Desmond Hotel & Conference Center in Albany. The conference explores issues related to the expansion of gaming in the country's largest commercial market. It is presented by GEM Communications, publisher of the industry's leading trade magazines, and producer of gaming-related conferences nationwide.
Larkin's address will be part of the opening night reception, beginning at 6:30 p.m. April 8. Larkin, (R-C serving the 39th District) is now in his 21st year in the New York State Legislature, having served in the Assembly from 1979 to 1990. He was first elected to the New York State Senate in November 1990. The Senate district includes Orange County, the cities of Middletown and Newburgh and the Towns of Blooming Grove, Chester, Cornwall, Crawford, Goshen, Hamptonburgh, Highlands, Monroe, Montgomery, New Windsor, Newburgh, Wallkill and Woodbury; in Ulster County, the city of Kingston and towns of Plattekill, Marlborough, Lloyd and Esopus.
In 1995, Larkin was appointed to the Senate leadership position of Chairman of the Senate Majority Steering Committee, and also is Chairman of the Senate Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering. Previously, Larkin served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Governments, a post he held from 1993 to 1995.
